Music From A Farther Room

Old paint on canvas, as it ages, sometimes becomes transparent. When that happens it is possible, in some pictures, to see the original lines: a tree will show through a woman's dress, a child makes way for a dog, a large boat is no longer on an open sea. That is called pentimento because the painter repented, changed his mind. Perhaps it would be as well to say that the old conception, replaced by a later choice, is a way of seeing, and then seeing again.

This is what I mean about the people in this book. The paint has aged now and I wanted to see what was there for me once, what is there for me now.

ontheborderland: So far this day I found a probably-supposed-to-make-it-crunchy additive of shrimp shells on my tofu I got for lunch (ugh!), and suffered through a Hepatitis A vaccine.  The two events were not related, thankfully.  So here’s a black cat, for an unlucky day:  the incomparable unheimlich Scottish Fold, Duncan.  I must confess I am a bit obsessed with this print and have made arrangements to purchase it post-haste.  If you check out the photographer’s shop, below, you will find other gems of feline ennui for sale.  (Image: Kip Holm Photography)

As Hurricane Irene batters the East Coast, federal disaster officials have warned that Internet outages could force people to interact with other people for the first time in years. Spence, who is not nature boy by any means, just loved it. We all did. The chance to spend time with my beloved men, the wonderful setting- ah. Sitting under a late night sky filled with stars and a beautiful view of the milky way while watching the kids having a great time together- absolutely priceless.

This is my brother’s cottage, about an hour or so north of Toronto. Mr. Michaud came to visit us for a week recently, and we were lucky enough to spend a few days here thanks to the kindness of said brother and his wife. Heaven.
